Rev Up for Spring: Essential Tips for Classic Car Tune-Ups
At AutoCouture Motoring, classic cars occupy a special place in our heart, and in our shop. We admire their meticulous craftsmanship, their captivatingly elegant and sleek body styles, and the nostalgia they evoke. The close-knit community they foster and the unparalleled driving experience they provide ensure that classic cars will always have a dedicated space at AutoCouture Motoring.
As spring approaches, and you waken your classic beauty from its deep winter slumber, remember that classic cars require more frequent maintenance than the modern cars we've become accustomed to.
Start with the basics, such as examining the ignition wires, distributor and points. If there are original parts on the car, make sure that rubber components, such as brake lines, fuel hoses, tires, and bushings, don’t have dry rotting or cracks. Also be sure to check fuel filters and fuel pumps, as they can get gummed up from old gas.
In today’s world of car manufacturing, maintenance may not require replacing spark plugs for at least 100,000 miles. But in your classic vehicle, it's crucial to check and potentially replace spark plugs, air filters, inspect your tires, brakes, batteries, and fluids every 10,000 miles. Additionally, contrary to the 10,000-mile oil change interval we have grown accustomed to, the owner’s manual of classic vehicles suggests this service should be completed every 2,000 miles.
Before you fire up that caged beast and unleash its prowess on the world, reach out to us to make sure your classic car is ready to be safely enjoyed this season. Whether it is routine maintenance, complete restoration, or somewhere in between, with over 130 years of experience, AutoCouture Motoring has all of your needs covered in one trusted place.
