Engine Oil
We see BMW owners and enthusiasts enjoy the marque across a wide spectrum, from show cars to daily drivers to dedicated track ponies. We trust MOTUL 8100 synthetic for most show and daily duty usage cases. Because of its engine protection characteristics, it earns top marks for S54, S65, and S85 engines with rod bearing concerns while also touting an impressively long oil life duration.
300V earns our trust for the motorsport side of the spectrum, and it’s what we put in the circuit-focused cars in the shop, including this Lime Rock Edition E92 M3 and our own G80 M3 demo car. This fluid is everything you need if you’re running your car at the limit. The incredible performance only comes at one cost: its oil life duration is shorter than its 8100 counterparts, so we change it more often.
Gear Oil
MOTUL’s 75w140 Competition Gear is our go-to fluid for the rearend. Its temperature ceiling is more than enough for even the most demanding track conditions, but it also offers a substantial improvement in cold-weather shifting as well — something we need here in the Northeast. For our customers with DCT transmissions (F8X/F1X), we recommend MOTUL’s DCT-F in regular service intervals.
Brake Fluid
All of MOTUL’s brake fluids, from 5.1 all the way up to the newest RBF 700, provide a sizable upgrade from the OEM fluid. Temperature stability aside (where it already exceeds SRF), it also manages to resist vapor lock more than any other brake fluid we’ve seen and works well on both traditional iron and carbon ceramic applications.
